The Ernest Oberholtzer Foundation is a non profit organization that maintains Ober’s legacy and North Woods island home as a source of inspiration, renewal, and connection to Indigenous Peoples, kindred spirits, and the natural world. Oberholtzer’s most important legacy is tied to his decades-long struggle to preserve America’s rapidly vanishing wilderness, including his lobbying efforts that led to the preservation of lands within the Rainy Lake watershed and eventually to the designation of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
I have been visiting Ober's Island since I was an infant, and it holds a very special place in my heart and childhood. I now use my design experience to maintain the foundation's website, eober.org as their webmaster. I redesigned their website from what was a simple html site from the early 2000s, to a wordpress site with a heavy emphasis on photography and writing.
